Moving down the hall

The other day I was sewing and glanced around at stacks and stacks of stuff and decided I needed more room.

Thankfully Logan thought I did too and was willing to switch rooms with me.

With the help of burly younger brothers I was wable to move all the big stuff in just a couple hours (thanks Evan!)

Today I spent most of the day cleaning and organizing 2 boy rooms. (We had a little switching around between the boys, too)

What do I have left?

A BIGGER room with stacks and stacks of stuff. ;o)

Thanksgiving

So, What are your plans for today?

Me? Oh, I just put a load of laundry in, breaking up a fight between my children and now I'm typing a blog post.

What? Is today a holiday? Oh, I didn't know. Seems like just another ordinary day.

Actually that's not true. Later we're taking the kids to a movie. That is far from ordinary.

I'd just like to tell you that we're doing our part to fix the recession.

'Planet 51' will be the 4th movie I have seen this week.

Yes folks! You read that correctly- 4th!

Last friday was 'The Blind Side' (Go see it...NOW!)

Saturday- 'New Moon' (Um, I think I have to see it again to know for sure what I think of it)

Last night- '2012' (which I didn't think was as bad as everyone said)

And today- 'Planet 51' (which has horrible reviews but the kids wants to see it anyway)

I don't even want to add it all up. All I know is I don't want to hand anymore money over to the Cinemark corporation. Geez, don't they know my kids need to go to college some day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

SERIOUSLY!?

Last friday I was in need of a 'get away' so I called my friend Jeanne to see if she wanted to see a movie.

We opted for 'The Bline Side' because we didn't want to have to battle the hoards of people going to see 'New Moon' (The Blind Side was PHENOMENAL!!! and don't worry, I saw New Moon on Sat.)

Since Gilbert was working late I was thankful that Jeanne's daughter, Lauren could babysit.

After the movie I asked Jeanne if we could run by an ATM to get money out to pay Lauren. I NEVER have cash and would just write her a check, but I'm out of those. She said that would be fine.

Then I remembered there was a ZION's Bank right near the theatre. We headed that direction but could not figure out how to get into the bank parking lot. After driving around and having to turn around a few times, we finally made our way to the drive up ATM.

It was freezing outside so I just handed my card to Jeanne and asked her to put it in. She joked about knowing my PIN and I assured her that it would do her no good since there's never any money in there. ;o)

For some reason the machine was not recognizing my card. We tried to insert it in several different ways- but nothing would happen. That's when I realized I handed her the wrong card. As I reached into my wallet to get my other card I made an important discovery.

Immediately I shouted "Get my Card! Get my card!" She grabbed it and looked at me and I exclaimed-

"I don't even bank here!"

Seriously? SERIOUSLY!!

Of course we laughed and laughed. But for the life of me I can't even think of why I suggested going to that bank. I have NEVER banked with Zion's bank- EVER!

Am I losing it!? Oh, I think I am! :o)

I hope you got a good laugh out of this story- I'm still laughing as I type it now.
Happy Monday!

Time Out!

My kids were surprised to find out that I had a time out. Little did they know, my time out was nothing like their time-outs.

I spent the last 2 days in time out..... for women!

Have you ever been?

Oh, I completely recommend it.

I am on a high and I don't want to come down.

I spent friday night and most of saturday sitting with my girlfriends listening to talks by such women as Sherri Dew, Mary Ellen Edmunds, Emily Watts, Kris Belcher, AND Sister Nelson (why can't I remember her name!?) wife of Elder Russel M. Nelson.

We were blessed with beautiful music by violinist extraordinaire: Jenny Oaks Baker (You should see her fingers move!) and the ever talented Hilary Weeks (a personal favorite!)

I wish I could express here what an amazing experience it was. I wish I could've stayed there for days. not only were the talks superb AND I might add, written expressly FOR ME :o) I was able to be there with wonderful girlfriends to visit and talk about our experiences and insights with.

Oh, It was so wonderful!

Please, go get in your own time out- I swear, you really need it! :o)

Did you know?

That I have been PUBLISHED in a magazine!?

It's TRUE!!!

Okay, so it's not a whole pattern- but it's a start.

Please, check out my blog crazyoldladiesquilts and read all about it.

I would post more about it here but it literally took me about an hour to finalize that post and right now my fingers need a rest.

Happy day!

Platelets

Last Monday I went for a yearly 'anxiety' check-up with my Dr. We discussed a few things and he decided that he should check my thyroid levels. It is very common for women- especially as they get older (thank you very much) to have thyroid imbalance. I thought it was a good idea and had wondered many times if it coulod be the cause of all my stress (ha! ha!). It's a simple test- just a little blood draw. And since they were drawing my blood anyway they gave me a package deal and ran 5 different labs. I don't remember what all of them were, but I was concerned about possible anemia and also curious about my cholesterol levels. I was told they'd have the results in 1-3 days.

By the time Friday rolled around (5 days later) I was tired of waiting. So I called the Dr. myself. To my surprise everything was normal. My cholesterol, the nurse said was 'perfect'. Also, no anemia as my red blood cell count was normal. Likewise for my white blood cell count. Everything was fine and dandy... except for my platelet count.

Apparently I have a low number of platelets. In fact, I have a count of 53, when 140 is considered normal.

HELLO!? What the heck does that mean?

Basically it explains why I bruise very easily and why the bruises don't heal very fast. It also explains why my gums sometimes bleed when I brush. (No Mom, it's not gingivitis) The platelets are what help the blood to clot and I don't have enough so it takes longer.

We were pretty worried, but I remembered that my WBC was normal so that put to rest other fears. After chatting with the Dr. he decided to re-check in a month and see where the count is. Waiting that long will give them a good idea of any changes that may take place. As for right now they have diagnosed me with- Thrombocytopenia. Which basically means 'low platelets'.

In a month they'll try to figure out why?

But for now, we sit, and wait, and try to to bump into things. ;o)

p.s.- we were freaked out at first, but now we're ok. We'll keep you posted on my medical mystery. ;o)

Ugh, is it Tuesday already?

This weekend my laptop went ka-put. Ok, actually the charging cord did. The battery ran out and could not be recharged. I feel like my left leg has been amputated. That was until today when I decided to try Al's laptop cord. (Don't worry Josh, I made sure it was going to work before plugging it in- both HP's) VOILA! I once again have a working laptop. Although Allison told me I'm going to need to buy a cord soon because I can't have hers!

I went to a meeting with a fabric maufacturer today to show them designs. I won't know what they think for another few weeks, but I don't think it was good. She left a few comments that let me know it wasn't what they were looking for. I know how I SHOULD feel, but it doesn't change how I ACTUALLY feel. Don't worry, I'm not giving up. I have some new designs in my head already. But today I choose to MOPE. Tomorrow I will go back to work. ;o)

In other news- we have a visitor coming tomorrow for Gilbert's prospective venture. This is really one of the last steps in the process and it has me a little anxious. It's so hard to know what to do or feel when things take so long. We just move step by step and take what we can get when we get it. In any case, Gilbert is excited and we'll keep everyone posted. (Sorry, I can't go into too much detail since this is a public blog).

Well, time to get dinner started.
